What you will experience
Big idea
What is the one point that you want your audience to take away? What do you want your audience to do at the end of your presentation/meeting/conversation? What is the main change you want to see in your audience in terms of what they think, feel or do?
Character and context
Understanding your audience helps you to decide which character to use and which situations to focus on. To make your story engaging you need to choose people, situations and emotions they can relate to. To be a good storyteller you have to keep your audience in mind!
Structure and storyline
If you want to develop and deliver a memorable story to your audience – whether your listeners be employees, stakeholders, or customers – you need to consider how to shape your storytelling. Without a clear structure the audience can lose interest or become distracted by trying to figure out how things are connected or why you are telling them this.
Metaphors and analogies
What can I compare my idea to, to create greater clarity in the minds of my audience? What is something simple and familiar to my audience that will help
them grasp this idea? The more visual you can make the language in your story,
the easier it is for your audience to process and remember.
Emotion and surprise
Emotions allow you to connect on a more personal level and make the audience more accepting of your message.Starting with a surprise engages your audience and makes them curious about what is to come, ending with a surprise can make the story more memorable.
Authenticity
Be genuine and human to connect with your audience and show them that you’re similar. For a story to make an impact, it must sound true. That’s why personal stories are so powerful. We know them. We’ve lived them. They’re our stories.

Anja Verheij-Köllmann & Saskia Dejonghe
Saskia Dejonghe and Anja Verheij-Köllmann are the founding partners of Leaders Unlocked and storytellers for life. Anja is from Amsterdam and Saskia from Brussels. Storytelling brought them together. They are using it constantly to build relationships, connect with the people they were coaching and inspire clients to change.
They’ve since trained and coached people all around the world from Hamburg to Johannesburg and from Singapore to Chicago, accompanying them on their journeys and helping them overcome their challenges. They share a passion for people, stories and travel and seek adventure where-ever they go. They build lasting relationships based on collaboration, co-creation, fun and hard work.
